An opportunity has re-arisen to join the dedicated and professional team at Monmouth Town Council. Applications are invited from proactive experienced professionals with proven and demonstrable leadership and organisational skills to partner our elected members in taking the Town Council forward in a positive direction. You will be expected to oversee, support and contribute to current projects which include; a hybrid and inclusive working and meetings platform, an integrated administrative system designed specifically for councils, a significant upgrade to the current IT system, and an office re-organisation and relocation within Shire Hall.

The successful applicant will be the Proper Officer and Responsible Finance Officer of the council and have a statutory duty to carry out all the functions required by law. You will be responsible for ensuring the council receive the advice and information it requires to ensure good governance by your experience and/or research with available resources.

You will need to be enthusiastic, flexible and community-focused with excellent administrative, interpersonal, accounting and IT skills in order to work successfully with staff, councillors, external organisations, stakeholders and the community. Excellent verbal and written skills are essential.

You will hold or be willing to work towards holding the Certificate in Local Council Administration (Wales). You will be politically aware and able to demonstrate a sound understanding of Local Government and current issues.

Monmouth, the county town of Monmouthshire, is situated on the confluence of the Rivers Wye and Monnow. It has a vibrant active community supported by the Town Council which consists of 16 elected members, (increasing to 19 after May 22 elections), and two part time Officers. The post holder would be expected to work mainly from the Shire Hall depending on Covid-19 restrictions with availability to attend evening meetings and occasional weekends when required.

This post is eligible for the Local Government Pension Scheme and the terms and conditions of service are in line with the National Joint Council guidelines.
