Emersons Green Council serves a vibrant local community that has grown significantly in recent years and continues to grow. The current focus of the council is on maintaining our valuable open spaces, improving youth facilities and responding to the climate emergency. The Town Council is currently undergoing the process of establishing a 5-year strategy. Emersons Green has a total precept income of £269k, and a band D equivalent tax base of 6,728. In addition to the advertised role, the council employs two part-time Assistant Clerks.

Emersons Green Town Council is seeking a highly motivated and proactive candidate who possesses excellent skills in organisation, leadership, finance, governance and administration. The successful candidate will have experience in managing staff, facilities, projects and contracts. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Council and accountable for all relevant statutory duties (including financial management) as well as supporting the council in meeting its objectives.

The ideal candidate will have a good knowledge of local government (including relevant legislation) as well as an understanding of the issues facing the public sector. They must be able to form strong partnerships with the community and local authorities and be able to motivate and influence others. Good communication and engagement skills are essential as is the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.

Emersons Green Town Council subscribes to the National Association of Local Councils (NALC), with all the support and benefits that this brings.

The ideal Candidate will be a CiLCA qualified Clerk, although consideration will be given to those part way through the qualification, and those with relevant experience who are willing to work towards achieving the qualification within two years of commencement in post. The Town Council will support any candidate needing to achieve the qualification with 10 days study leave and by fully funding the study programme. CiLCA achievement in itself attracts an additional increment on the NALC payscale.
