Town Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer

Cheadle Town Council is seeking to appoint a forward thinking, innovative Town Clerk to manage the council’s statutory requirements, develop and deliver a wide range of projects, lead the staff team and promote the town of Cheadle.

The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, who can demonstrate strong governance and financial management skills alongside good business acumen. The successful candidate will be expected to job share with the present clerk.

To be successful in this role you will need to be able to work in close partnership with a range of local bodies and organisations including the unitary authority. You will need to combine strong relevant technical knowledge with positive and effective leadership, management and communication skills.

If you feel that you meet these requirements, we would like to hear from you. You will need to hold the Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA) or equivalent, or be willing to work towards the qualification. The post of town clerk is challenging and duties will require attendance at evening meetings and occasional weekends.

Salary: NJC Level 2 – SCP 24-32 (£27,905 – £34,788) (pro rata)
Dependant on experience & qualifications.
Opportunity to join Local Government Pension Scheme.

Job Type: Job Share – 22.2 hours per week worked over three days inclusive of meetings.

Holiday entitlement: 21 days per annum rising to 26 after 5 years of service plus 2 extra statutory days (pro rata).
