Town Clerk

Applications must be returned by 17/06/2022 16:00

Salary: SCP 42-45 (£46,662 – £50,074) plus Local Government Pension Scheme

Hours: Permanent full-time contract of 37 hours per week. This includes some evening work and occasional weekend working.

Location: Based at the Evesham Town Council offices in Evesham, Worcestershire, but the role will involve spending some time at other Town Council facilities and remote working where appropriate.

Evesham is a historic market town situated on a natural loop of the River Avon in  Worcestershire. The town has a resident population of around 28,000 and also serves as the local urban centre for the surrounding Vale of Evesham as well as being a popular leisure and recreational destination.

Evesham Town Council was established by Royal Charter in 1604 and has successfully survived over four centuries of government tinkering in the administration of local authorities. Evesham’s heritage and history are fundamental aspects of the town’s identity, and the Town Council plays a key role in supporting this.

The Town Council is now seeking to appoint an innovative, forward thinking and proactive Town Clerk who will help lead the council into a more sustainable and greener future while maintaining our links with the past.

If you have the enthusiasm, vision and commitment to take the Council forward, manage a budget of £750k and a current workforce of 12, we would like to hear from you.

You will have a proven track record in administrative and financial management together with the necessary skills in people management and leadership, communication and organisation. Ideally, you will already be CiLCA qualified, but we would consider an exceptional candidate who is committed to obtaining this within twelve months of appointment.

The Town Council has recently made the decision to separate the roles of Town Clerk and Responsible Finance Officer (RFO), and one of your first key tasks will be to finalise the recruitment of an RFO.  In the interim, you will need to act as RFO until the position is filled.
