Salary: SCP 35-37 (£38,890 - £40,876) per annum dependent upon experience and qualifications

Newent Town Council is seeking to recruit a highly motivated forward-thinking individual who has excellent organisational, leadership, IT and administrative abilities and a good knowledge of local government; as well as a proven track record in financial management.
Newent is a historical market town located in the Forest of Dean and has a population of approximately 5,500 residents. The town council’s annual budget is around £320,000 and it is responsible for the Market House, Lake, Play Areas, Arboretum, Allotments, Cemetery and Recreation Ground (the latter being managed under a Charitable Trust).
The Town Clerk is responsible for carrying out all the functions of the Proper Officer and also the Responsible Financial Officer, providing effective leadership and management of staff, services and facilities. The role is challenging and you will be required to work evenings regularly and occasionally at weekends. You will be supported by a committed team of 5 staff.
The post is for 37 hours per week. Benefits include members of the Local Government Pensions Scheme and overtime is paid for attendance at scheduled full council meetings.
The successful candidate would be expected to hold the Certificate in Local Council Administration or be willing to attain it within one year of starting in post.
