Shaftesbury Town Council is seeking to appoint an innovative, forward thinking, and proactive Town Clerk & RFO to support the elected councillors in achieving their aims and aspirations for the Council. The Town Clerk will have responsibility for ensuring that the instructions of the Council are carried out and will work actively with the elected councillors accordingly.

The Council has a Strategic Plan (review in April 2025) and the implementation of this will be one of the key priorities for the newly appointed Town Clerk. The Council does also have several initiatives and projects planned and a part of this role will be somebody who has project management experience and knowledge, as well as the setting up of key performance measures.

The Town Clerk & RFO will be expected to implement the Strategic Plan, including its impact on operations and staffing. The post holder will also be responsible for ensuring the Council is up to date with policies, training, privacy, and data protection compliance.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they have relevant experience – a track record of service achievement and innovation, commitment to public service, be motivated, community focused, and possess sound managerial and organisational skills.

Candidates should ideally have a sound knowledge of local government law and procedures though excellent previous managerial experience is as important. A Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA) qualification is required as a minimum, or a willingness to achieve this within an agreed time scale after commencement.

Attendance at evening meetings and weekend events will be required, for which time off in lieu will be granted. A relocation package may be negotiated for the right candidate.

Shaftesbury Town Council is committed to Equality of Opportunity and actively welcomes applications from all sections of the community.

This process is being managed by a third party acting for the Town Council. For an informal discussion and to access the Recruitment Pack then please call Reg Williams on 07494 760535.
