Joint SLCC and National Association of Local Councils (NALC) online event ‘Martyn’s Law: where are we now?’

25 October 2023

Join the upcoming joint SLCC and National Association of Local Councils (NALC) online event ‘Martyn’s Law: where are we now?’ taking place on 16 November from 12:00pm to 1:30pm.

Following the tragic death of Martyn Hett and 21 other people in the Manchester bombing of 2017, and the national campaign led by his mother Figen Murray and others for the government to create a law to prevent the same tragedy happening again, Martyn’s Law is now the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Draft Bill which the government will hopefully make law before the general election.

This free event will highlight where Martyn’s Law is at in terms of its legislative journey as we await the government response to the recent Home Affairs Select Committee inquiry into the draft bill. You’ll hear of the potential measures town, parish and community councils will need to implement if the law is enacted and take away practical tips about what councils can do to help prevent terrorism in our local areas.
