Message from the Small Organisation Helper Service: ‘Help us Shape the Future of a .gov.uk Service Offering for Parish Councils’

3 October 2023

The Discovery and Pilot phases of the .gov.uk domain project have ended

We want to take a moment to thank all the participating parish councils who have played a pivotal role in the Discovery and Pilot phases of the Small Organisation Helper Service (SOHS) project with the Central Digital and Data Office.

With their help, the findings of the SOHS have directly led to a series of recommendations relating to the .gov.uk domain cost model, lifecycle support, and more. These are designed to make adopting a .gov.uk domain name, getting the most of it, and ultimately being more cyber safe, achievable for all parish councils regardless of size, technical expertise and precept.

Moving to a secure domain is not just a change in the digital landscape; it’s an investment in the future of all government organisations; ensuring the security of your personal and professional information and reputation.

If this sounds like something you would be interested in, we would like to hear from your parish council!

The next phase of the .gov.uk domain project is on the horizon, and the SOHS project team is eager to support all parish councils who do not currently use a .gov.uk domain . If your parish council hasn’t made the move to a .gov.uk domain yet but you are interested in reaping its benefits, now is the perfect time to get involved. Your participation is invaluable, you will be supported through the process and we welcome you with open arms.

If you would like to join the next phase of the project, have any questions, concerns, or are unsure of where to start, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Small Organisation Helper Service (SOHS) at CDDO—[email protected]. The project team will be there to assist you every step of the way, ensuring a smooth transition and answering any queries you may have.

Together, we can shape a more secure and promising digital future for the government at every level – Transforming for a digital future: 2022 to 2025. Thank you once again to our pioneers, and we look forward to welcoming more Parish Councils to join us on this exciting journey very soon.
