31 March 2025Following the government’s publication of the English Devolution White Paper on 16 December 2024, which outlines the government’s vision for a simpler, more effective local government structure, Jim McMahon, Minister of State for Local Government and Devolution, has laid a written ministerial statement before Parliament.
The statement confirms that the government has received responses from all district and county councils in two-tier areas, and their neighbouring small unitaries, who have been invited to reorganise. Officials will follow up with these areas to discuss their interim plans, provide feedback, and understand the collaboration and information sharing arrangements.
