Parliamentary Boundaries – Final proposals

30 August 2018

The Boundary Commissions for England and Wales have advised that they will be reporting their final recommendations for a review of Parliamentary Boundaries to Government next Wednesday 5th September 2018. It will then be for Government to lay the reports in Parliament before the final recommendations and maps published on the respective websites for everyone to see.

Given the interest and engagement that the public have had in the review since initial proposals to reduce the total number of MPs from 650 to 600 were published in September 2016, the Commissions imagine there will be a keen audience awaiting the publication of their final recommendations!

Once the Government has laid the reports they must then turn the recommendations into law through a Statutory Instrument that must be voted on by both the House of Commons and House of Lords.
