President Attends SOLAR 2025 Annual Conference
‘I was happy to attend the SOLAR (Society of Local Authority Lawyers & Administrators in Scotland) Annual Conference on 27 and 28 March 2025, which was held in the Stirling Court Hotel within the grounds of Stirling University. It was a lovely venue and I even managed a glimpse of Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument, despite the very rainy and windy weather that we had throughout the two-day event.
‘Julia McAfee, President of SOLAR, opened the conference and warmly welcomed all delegates. The keynote speaker on day one was David Hamilton, the Scottish Information Commissioner, who delivered a presentation on ’20 years of FOI, a triumph in transparency’, a topic I think most clerks can relate to! May Dunsmuir, Chamber President, Health and Education Chamber, First Tier Tribunal for Scotland, was the keynote speaker on day two and spoke in depth on the work of the First Tier Tribunal of Scotland. There was a good variety of sessions and workshops to attend including ‘Transgender issues’, ‘Immigration/unaccompanied asylum seeking children’ and ‘Keyboard warriors’. All sessions were well attended and there was lots of interaction from delegates with many interesting questions raised.
‘At the annual dinner we had the honour of the company of the Lord Provost of Stirling, Elaine Watterson, we then all sat down to a scrumptious meal.
‘I found the conference very interesting and had the opportunity to make some new acquaintances. I would like to express my thanks to Julia and all her team at SOLAR for their warm welcome.’
