Public consultation launched on Birmingham devolution

7 September 2018

Birmingham City Council has launched a public consultation to ask residents if they back the creation of new local bodies such as parish councils, ward forums or residents’ associations, with devolved powers and funding through a council tax precept.

The consultation ends on 28th September and SLCC Chief Executive said: “The Society will be responding to the consultation and my initial view is that we should be pointing out that only formally established parish/ community/neighbourhood councils are democratically accountable for the public money they spend. We could also be citing some of the numerous examples where parishes are operating successfully in urban areas.”
