Overview:

This Leadership workshop is designed to introduce leadership styles and how Clerks can use them. It will explore the concept of Emotional Intelligence and how it can be used to develop leadership style. It will also explain how a fuller leadership development programme for clerks would work.

The day is designed to be highly interactive and practical as well as exploring key theories.

Course outline:

  • What is a Leader? - Understanding Leadership theory and practice
  • Using Emotional intelligence to lead and influence; understanding  yourself and others
    • Developing self-awareness using transactional analysis (drivers)
    • Influencing others
  • Introducing the full leadership development programme

Time:

0930 - 1600*

About the trainer's:
David Carden
has been Town Clerk at Burgess Hill Town, an award winning town council, since 1993. Prior to that he held senior management positions in district and county councils and has also worked for a London Borough, the commercial sector and the Health Service.

Burgess Hill Town Council was voted Local Council of the Year in 2006 and David was Runner-up in the Clerk of the Year competition the same year.  The Town Council have also won the Sussex Business Award for Customer Service (2008) and received the Employer of the Year award from the Sussex Council of Training Providers (2009) for their approach to staff development and training.

David has always had a strong commitment to coaching and developing people and communities to maximise their potential.

Passionate about the development of people and organisations, Chris Watt has is an innovative, learning and development professional with a proven record of achievement. An accomplished facilitator, coach, trainer and presenter, he has extensive experience in work with Town and Parish Councils formed over a 15 year period. Combine this with a wealth of experience in both the private and public sectors give him a unique perspective on how leaders and organizations work. Currently Head of Organisational Learning at the London School of Economics.

 Non-members  £185.00 + VAT

If your Clerk attends, subsequent bookings for the same course from members of the council may attend at the member rate.

*Joining instructions will be sent to you 3 weeks before the event and your invoice will be sent 5 days after the event. We advise that, on receipt of the joining instructions, you are liable for any fees incurred in order to attend the event.
