Deputy Town Clerk

An opportunity has arisen for the challenging and interesting part time (28 hrs per week over 5 days but some flexibility required) position as Deputy Town Clerk to Ashby de la Zouch Town Council.

Previous experience of Local Authority/Government procedures is desirable but not essential as full training will be given. Experience of office administration is essential. Previous management experience would be advantageous. You will be in a supporting role to the town clerk and deputise fully in his absence.

The ideal candidate should have:

• The ability to work on your own initiative, as you will be a contact point for elected members, the community, other authorities and the town council;
• Good supervisory and communication skills;
• Good computer skills;
• A commitment to providing excellent customer service;
• An experience of accounts packages and be familiar with payroll procedures.

The successful candidate will be required to arrange, attend and record evening meetings of the town council and would be expected to take and produce minutes of these meetings in a clear and concise manner.

The Deputy Town Clerk will assist the Town Clerk in the preparation of all records required by the Local Government Acts and Audit Regulations. The deputy town clerk will also assist in ensuring that the town council fulfils all legal, health & safety and best practice obligations. The post-holder will also act as Deputy Registrar of Burials for the town cemetery.

Training opportunities will be made available and the post-holder will be expected to study towards a recognised qualification within two years of appointment.
