Can I still be a member after I leave the council?

29 August 2019

Yes, if you are no longer active in the sector then you can take up membership as a Past Service Member. Past Service Members have access to all the benefits of a Full Member except for the advisory service and you do not need to acquire CPD points to apply for this membership.

If you still have a role or interest in local councils you should apply for Affiliate membership. This membership covers town, parish and community councillors, officers of county associations and any others with an interest in the local council sector. Affiliate Members have access to all the benefits of a Full Member, however, they may only attend branch meetings with the agreement of the relevant branch, may not vote at SLCC meetings and are not eligible to attend the SLCC’s Annual General Meeting.

You do not need to acquire CPD points to apply for Affiliate membership, however, if you would like to demonstrate your knowledge and experience, you are able to upgrade to become a Principal (Affiliate Principal) or Fellow (Fellow Affiliate).
